Monday, Oct. 6

It is Monday evening and Elder Whiting and I have had a lovely Preparation day. We have cleaned and washed and made bread, emptied the garbage, vacuumed and etc. It is a good feeling because it is done. But actually it wasn't that hard. Right now, the bread smells so very good as it is just barely out of the oven!

This weekend was conference and we enjoyed watching the sessions. Saturday we drove to the ward to watch it and no one had set it up and we could not find it the TV to set it up. By the time we got back home and was able to set it up on our computer, we missed the first hour. We were slightly frustrated, but it was worth waiting for. When we turned it on we found that they had announced five new temples; three outside of the USA and two inside. That is exciting to us to hear of the work moving forward.

I especially loved the afternoon session; I'm not sure why but the talks just touched me a lot as well as the speakers. I felt they were very inspired. Elder Whiting went to the church for Priesthood meeting where he met with 10 of the men from the branch who gathered for pizza and ice cream before the broadcast began. He has been watching his eating quite carefully so he skipped both of them. But he said the broadcast was very good. He especially enjoyed that part of conference. When he arrived home he shared with me the notes that he had taken and what happened. He especially loved the men's choir from the MTC. I would have loved to hear them.

Conference on Sunday was outstanding. We went to the church and watched it along with 7 other people in the morning session; and two others for the afternoon. They were not the same people so we were happy that others came. We were the only ones that stayed and ate our lunch at the church. We just pulled some soup out of the freezer that I had made earlier. After we ate our lunch, I played the organ and Leon studied. During the second session, the two people who watched it with us were some travelers that looked for a ward where they could attend conference. It was nice to meet them.

Today, being Monday was a little discouraging, but in a good way. We visited Nina and decided that we need to discontinue our efforts with her. She told us that she knew the Book of Mormon was true, but that she would not join our church. She has a lot of family pressure on her and just could not disappoint all of them. So we parted friends and who knows, maybe another set of missionaries might find her better prepared to receive the Gospel? We hope so.

Tomorrow we are going to district meetings, get me a hair cut, stop on the way home and visit with our branch president who lives in Italy, Texas, and have the young neighbors, (baptized LDS, but living together.) over for dinner tomorrow night. It will be a busy day for us, but we love to be busy. Our young neighbors are moving out this weekend and we want to leave them with a good spiritual thought about getting married. ;)
