Sulphur Springs Talent Show Jan 30, 2010

We have been planning and waiting patiently for the Sulphur Springs Talent Show for two months. It was jointly planned between the activities committee couple and the Missionaries, (us.) The activities committee are not exactly experienced in planning and following through with such events, but they helped us in talking through it and with refreshments. They seem to like to do things at their own pace.

We had over 22 numbers participating and we were so excited. There were changes that were made all day the day of the show and even in to when the emcee was announcing them. One number that was going to be a prank that we didn't know about was cancelled by the Branch President. We still don't know what it was going to be.

The show lasted for almost two hours and it was sooooooo good!!! We worked on a lot of the numbers with them. Many worked on them alone. Some were more developed than others. The youngest was four year old Rachel Smith who told some knock knock jokes.
We had some excellent skits put on by different families. The Carpenter family did the "Chicken Dance," with costumes and everything. It was sooooo good. The most different one was Albert Serrano juggling for us. He is ten years old and did a great job!!!

We have a flute duet with piano from the Sally Deford site which was beautiful. It was probably the nicest of all and we ended with that. We had some really nice voices in the singing part. I personally loved the reading that Brother Bob Simms gave. He was the emcee and also did his reading. He introduced his act, (without his name,) and then ran off stage and changed his jacket and hat and came right back on. His reading was about a lady who went to the Dr. because she had a boil on her behind. It was pretty funny!!! We all loved it.

The refreshments were well planned and we sent home cookies with many people who loved it. It was a great activity and very successful. One of the ladies in the branch said that the last talent show they had only lasted about five minutes. We were grateful to Heavenly Father for his help. There were a couple of families who were not very helpful and would not attend or participate. It is sad because they are some of the leaders in the branch.

We had quite a few talent displays too. We actually used the Seminary room and set up three long tables. There were many things that I was impressed with.

We came home relieved, grateful, and overjoyed with the success of the whole thing!! I hope this branch was able to recognize the things they can accomplish when they work together.
