Our District in Lafayette - Aug. 23

It has taken us a while to get our feet on the ground in Lafayette.Because we were transferred here in August, much of the LDS in Lafayette were on vacation; including the whole stake presidency who was in Alaska fishing together, and the Bishop of the ward that we were finally assigned to after the stake presidency arrived home.

So we began calling Bishops and Relief Society Presidents to see how we could help them until we received our assignments from the stake Presidency.  We attended the Lafayette Second Ward and the First Ward because we knew that we would be assigned to one of them.  We also went to the institute of Religion and met the Director there and visited with him.  We  knew we would have some responsibilities related to the Institute.  While there he gave us a ward list to contact and update the information of students from last year.  Many of them have moved and/or changed their phone numbers.  I really liked the way they post pictures of the kids on their ward lists.

We began with the Second Ward which ended up being the very one that we were not assigned.  But we were able to meet some nice people and perhaps brighten their days. 

At our District Meeting on Friday we met our District Leader who are the Spanish Elders; the Sister Missionaries who work in the Second Ward, and the Elders who work in the First Ward.  They had pulled the Elders out of the 3rd Ward for the Month, but we also have the Zone leaders in our district, who work with the Institute.

Elder Beach who served in Richmond with us is now a Zone leader.  It has been fun to work with him.  He is much more confident in his work now and is a hard worker.   They all have cars and that makes it easier for them.  All of the Elders and Sisters are from the West.  Most from different parts of Utah, Washington, or the West somewhere.  It is a very serious and nice district.  Almost everyone in this district plays the piano to one degree or another.  They also meet at the Institute on Mondays, (preparation day,) and play ping pong with each other.  The Sisters are very focused and accomplish a lot.  One has already graduated from college and the other is in the Physical Therapy/Nursing fields.   They are sweet and humble, yet knowledgeable sisters. 

This week was transfer day again already.  We just found out that the Sisters are going to be in a three-some and they are sending in Elders to cover the third Ward.  We have the largest district in the whole mission!!!  That is really neat.  They are a hard working and supporting crew, and very mature.  We hope they can accomplish things here.
