Sat., July 5

Yesterday was the greatest, most wonderful, awesome first and only 4th of July in Corsicana, Texas. Actually it would have been nice if we could have transported our whole family here to share with us!! We really didn't do anything except wait for it to pass! We did watch the fireworks last night though. Luckily they were at the park which is right across the street from our apartment. We just went out and sat on the front lawn and had a front row seat.

Leon went to the church in the morning and obtained more information on these 43 people we are suppose to sort out for the Bishop. He was gone for about three hours. He still was frustrated that he didn't get all the information that he wanted. But I made bread and we planned some of the things that we feel we need to do.

Oh yes, Leon cut my hair in the back and I cut the front and it all turned out. It was the first lonesome day I have had because we have kept so busy. At just the height of my wave of sickness, Jon called and I said, "just say something, so I can hear your voice!" So he did although I'm sure he thought I was crazy!! I also talked to Laura twice and Suzette. They all settled me down and I survived. (I'm such a baby!)

Today was a better day! Dad and I loaded our bread into the car and went out visiting after spending time doing some more planning. We went to two places where members were not home and then we proceeded over to the less active Miller family.

How thankful we were that we went there. They were thankful for our visit and so very gracious. We gave them the bread and he told us how he love to bake and makes his bread too. His wife was having kidney stones and was in bed in a lot of pain. She came out and Leon gave her a blessing for which they were very grateful. She has had kidney stones many times before and so she knew what it felt like.

They opened up and told us all about their family. They have adopted kids and how they raised them all. She was a school teacher. He even showed us pictures of when they were sealed in the Dallas Temple!! We were amazed at their openness. They shared that they too wanted to go on a mission and teach the Gospel. (The only problem is that they are not current Temple reccomend holders and are not active.) Their clothing revealed that they were not wearing their LDS Underclothing too.

They talked about getting active and what they wanted to do. He bore his testimony in everything he did. We just fell in love with what sweet people they are. He ask us if they could take us on a tour of Corsicana and show us the interesting spots when his wife was feeling better. We heartily agreed. When we left, we understood why the Lord wanted us to visit them

Next we stopped at the Grahams house. He has been sick and we felt we needed to stop and see them. He answered the door and took the bread. He didn't invite us in, but he could only whisper and told us that he had burned his throat welding or something like that. We didn't stay but were happy that we had taken the time to care.

Last of all we went out to Purdon, (pronounced PUR-don,) and took a loaf of bread to the Jonte family, whom we had visited early in the week. They had given us a can of wheat to make bread and we took them a loaf also. They had the butter and jam all ready. We just sat around the table and talked and shared. We were also happy that we had made the effort. It seemed like they enjoyed being cared about. We hope that makes a difference for them.

Tomorrow is Sunday and we hope that Hollie will make it to church. We also pray that Julie will make it. Elder Whiting says we will not baptise her until her mother is bringing her regularly and for at least a month. I know that he listens to the spirit. We do not want to make problems for the ward by having one or two more less active people for them to care about.

Oh yes, we also stopped at the Joshua Mains home to see them and share some bread. They were home, (we could hear the tv, and the lights were on,) but would not come to the door. They have been offended in this ward, but what is new? Most people have had the chance and many, many of them have taken it. :( We are so blessed to be able to serve Heavenly Father here.

I'm pretty impressed that Dad cut your hair! Keep your chin up! Homesickness goes away eventually!

I'm glad you made it through your homesickness!

I really can't believe that Dad cut your hair. Maybe that's for all the times you trim his ear and nose hairs. :)

Sounds as if you two are very, very busy and always running somewhere. That's great! Keeping busy is a great cure for homesickness. :) Love you!
