Thursday, July 28

Finally we were able to make it back to Bob and Millie Cornell's home on Thursday. They have been so busy we haven't been able to get there for a couple of weeks. Then I was gone to Utah for Dad's funeral and then Bob has had a bacterial infection in his stomach from something he ate. But it was worth the wait.

Their dogs (2 or 3) always greet us and then Bob and Millie come out to greet us as we drive up. They are the last house at the end of their dirt road lane. They always seem happy to see us and make us feel welcome. We sit around the table and chat and then have a prayer and get on to business of the Gospel. Yesterday we felt like long lost friends because it had been so long.

Elder Whiting taught them about Tithing and how it works. They are both retired so I know they don't get that much. Millie already has a testimony of it, Bob just needs to be willing to give it a try. I think he will but he has to think about it. Bob told us yesterday that he has not had any coffee for over two weeks. He says that he drinks a lot of water. We are like his parents in that we feel so proud of him,

I presented Baptism formally yesterday for them. Using scriptures we taught them that Jesus was baptized to show us the way. We taught them how we are baptized and how we are baptized. We also taught them about the Holy Ghost and how it works. We read a lot of scriptures. We taught them about baptism being the gateway and just took it step by step to the baptismal prayer and the whole process. It was such a great experience. At one point we were able to stop and tell them that the feeling they were having was the Holy Ghost. Milly was crying. After we finished we challenged Bob to set a baptismal date again. Bob said that he still wasn't ready that he had to do it his way. He says that he studies every morning and wants to be sure that he is trading what he has for something better. He will sure be a great member of the church once he is baptized.

Finally we ask Bob how much faith he has and challenged him to set a date with the faith that he would know it was the right thing to do by then through the spirit. He said that he had a lot of faith, but he wasn't ready and he just had to do it his way!! So we respected that. They are just such nice people and we enjoy them so much. I know Heavenly Father is teaching us as well as them.

We were there for two hours and they just kept wanting us to stay. He also said, (in jest), "If I get baptized, then you will quit coming to see us."

Millie loaded us down with bananas that needed to be made into banana bread and we hugged and shook hands, got in our car, and one of their dogs always races us down the road. He is actually pretty fast!! But he always gives up when we get going too fast. One day we went about 20 miles an hour and he raced us for a good mile. It was amazing!! There is no doubt that Bob will be baptized, we will just wait patiently.

We came home yesterday and made a few calls, did some planning and went shopping later in the day. We are so grateful to the Lord for his blessings and the Holy Ghost. It is such a wonderful experience to experience the Holy Ghost as we are teaching.

Boy mom, sure felt the spirit as you talked about the Cornells. Its obvious you and dad have a great love for them. We will pray for Bob to feel that he is ready for baptism.
