Aug 30

We have had a great weekend and did get a lot accomplished. Yesterday, Saturday, we cleaned our apartment and then went to the church and cleaned and vacuumed and washed windows at the church. We were so tired by the time we came home that we barely had the energy to finish cleaning at home. But we made it and went to bed and slept well

Today we went to church, P. E. C . 9 a.m. Then we went to church. Millie and Bob called and said that their family showed up and so they were staying home to take care of them. So none of the people we teach were there. But many from the homes where we have visited were able to come. The Dillions sat next to us and it was good to see them.

There was a couple there that we had not seen before. The man had a wife who looked to be a Lamanite. She had cold black hair, but short. We found out later their name was Sanders. We tried to get an appointment to get out and visit with them. They hesitantly gave us their phone number. He told me he was a member, but did not take the sacrament. Very interesting.

He stopped after church and told me that he had seen Elder Whiting in one of the grocery stores without his missionary badge on. He said he knew that he was LDS just from his look and he wanted to come to church in this branch to see him. Some say Bro Sanders is a little difficult and has been offended here. We will probably get to see him this week and find out.

We also found out that they are bringing in Senior missionaries to Waxahachie, which is about 25 miles between here and Dallas. We can go to District meetings together. The Elders called tonight and passed that information on. Yay for us!!! We haven't heard that they are moving us. But the young missionaries have not been successful in Waxahachie and we think maybe they need an older couple to open things up there for them. They say that the older missionaries seem to open the hearts of the people to missionary work.

Curtis and Jen and family came today with their 6 children. it is so good to see all of them. They were a little late because Curtis had to see about their list to take stranded families for the hurricane that is coming tomorrow or the next day to New Orleans and the Gulf, Anyway we had dinner together and went for a walk and Dad taught the older kids how to index. They seem to like it and didn't think it was too hard. It was so fun to visit with them and share stories.

Tomorrow we are having a picnic at the church for Labor Day and Bob's Birthday!! Jen and Curtis' family will be there as well as several other families that we have invited. It will be a good opportunity to know everyone better. I need to make two cakes and sloppy joes in the morning.
