Thurs, Sept 25

This morning Elder Whiting and I went out to find some people we have not been able to find. Elder Whiting found that they lived in Frost instead of where we thought they lived. They actually had box numbers listed and we just couldn't get an address.

The first one we rode and rode on this dirt road, for about 20 minutes. Finally we came to this old, old "Adams Family" type house. I turned to Elder Whiting and said, "I'm sure glad that's not the house we are looking for." Just then I saw an address that was the exact address we were looking for. It was eerie, it was unreal. It was completely trashed and old, and many of the windows and doors were boarded up. There was weeds around it for an acre or so and many, many old cars and trucks and old, old out buildings. We decided not to even bother stopping, there didn't look like there was anyone around anyway. But we did see a hose going across the dirt road to a water trough through the fence. We didn't even bother to stop. If they lived there, they would not be the kind to come to church. Some places do not look safe. We may have to answer to Heavenly Father for not going there.

The second place that we went to was a Brother Miles. It was about five miles away from the first place. Because they don't put their addresses on their houses, they are hard to find. Many have box numbers instead of mail boxes. Anyway we drove up and down this street and kept passing this fellow who was sitting out on the porch. So we stopped and ask and then went up and down the street again and then stopped and asked another fellow who was sitting on his porch. (I guess it was a good day for sitting out on the porch,).) This second guy told Elder Whiting that this fellow had moved away about six months ago. He had moved far, far, away. So far away that he was up in Heaven,(or you know where.) We were a little shocked, but we marked him off our list and moved on. Actually Elder Whiting and I thought it was really sad that the church was not aware that he had died.

Earlier this morning we went to the shoe store up by Walmart to see if we could find me some Nike Air for walking. We told the assistant manager about the Gospel. She said she was interested and would come to church next Sunday. We will see. It sounds a little fishy. But she did give us her name and two telephone numbers.

After we left this second house, we were starving, so we stopped in Frost to get something to eat. There were no fast food restaurants and no where else to stop, but my blood sugar was going crazy so we just stopped at the only place. This town looked just like a ghost town, most of the buildings were closed down, and looked like they had once been a booming town. We found out later that it had been hit by a tornado some years ago.

The only grocery and restaurant were right next door to each other. The restaurant reminded me of Manleys in Boise. Old and dirty and very home townish. We were starving, just give us some food. We found out that the grocery and restaurant were owned by the same people. We ordered salads and they brought out this huge, Manley style, chicken salad. They were so big, we could barely eat it all. But we did cause we were starving. It was a fun experience just to see what we would get. They had good service too, since there was only one other customer at the time.

How fun! I bet that was quite the adventure for you guys. The question of the day is: Did the food bother Dad later?

Have a great day!

What is Manley's? I've never heard of this place, unless I've forgotten. And how did the town get the name Frost? Did they have a frost there once, and everyone was so shocked they decided to name the town after it?

Very interesting questions. Dad has not had so much problem with food. He has changed a few things and we are seeing results! He has been eating salad without salad dressing. I think he just takes fewer chances. We are crossing our fingers.

Manleys is a restaurant in Boise that from the outside looked awful and it was dirty inside, but the food was good and who knew? Whatever they served, it was huge!! I mean like 6 scoops of ice cream big!!! But they tore it down about 10 years ago. It was up on the bency near Federal Way.
