We had an interesting morning today. We went out to "Cef's" home. Cef was baptized when he was 8 and stayed in the church until he was about 13. He was a deacon when he made a decision to rebel against life. He is around 40 or so now. He has had a hard life and has lost his belief in the church and yet with fondness recalls his memories of the church and the beliefs. He always smiles as he thinks about how it affected his life. He recalls passing the sacrament and other things about the church that he liked.
But today he has dealt with various things. Drinking, darkness and non-belief. He was praying for direction in his life when the members of the church came to his door and then we were sent there. He is not sure what his beliefs are. He wants to be true to himself, but is very confused. We want to help him find himself through the Gospel. Of course he doesn't know right now that is his answer. He had not intention of inviting us back when we went, but finds himself inviting us baCK ENTHUSIASTICALLY each time. A very interesting fellow. What a sad thing to realize what he had and how he lost it all.
Elder Whiting and I believe that the Lord has brought him to his knees so he can turn his life around and embrace righteousness. His wife is not a member and he does not want her involved at this point. She works during the day so he can spend time with us. He is actively also looking for a job because he recently lost his. How do you help someone find a belief when they doubt so much. There are a lot of fears there.
We also visited Heather today. She is the nonmember who has been attending church for years without her husband. She wants to have a witness of the Holy Ghost about those things she desires. But she is fighting it because of wha her mother will think. We told her, we did not come to just baptize you, but help you find yourself so you can be happy and find joy. We will just love her. She felt a lot of pressure from the full time missionaries and actually cancelled out on her baptism last time. It was fun to read Enos today and talk about it and Mosiah. And then we stopped and talked about our favorite verses and asked Heather if the principles taught were true or not true. This made her think and then we were able to talk about those principles. We had a good experience today and enjoyed getting to know her without her husband.
