Fantastic Friday, Aug. 8, 2008

Elder Whiting and I just got back from spending the evening at the Enrichment Meeting up at Cathy Young's home on the lake. We took Millie and Bob Cornell and Hollie and her Mother-in-law, Vicki, met us up there. There were several others there, also. Elder Whiting did a cooking on the fire without any pans demonstration. He cooked hamburger on a rock and in an orange peel, also corn on the cob, an egg, and a banana boat. He did a great job and the sisters enjoyed his honesty and sense of humor.

There were about 12 of us all together. Some of them were staying overnight. We had yummy pork cooked in the dutch oven, salads, a yummy melon tray, stuffed peppers, cake, etc. It was very good. After dinner we all went to crochet or knit booties and hats for the marine moms or something like that. It was a beautiful night on the lake. There was a cool breeze blowing which cooled it off. Cathy's house is huge and very ornate and yet she is very practical in her thinking. She has her 91 yr. old mother living with her who is so very sweet. She came and participated in the activities. Elder Whiting teased her and she enjoyed that.

Today we taught Julie a lesson on Tithing and set her Baptism date. We felt very good about it after visiting with her mother and finding out how much she enjoys Primary. She can't wait to be there and take her scriptures each week. Her teacher is working very effectively with her. Her mother felt that they have established some good patterns by bringing her too. So we are going to baptize Julie on Aug. 24. Yay!!! We are thrilled for her. The Zimmermans are going to be gone so we will need to do everything ourselves to get ready for it.

We also taught Holly today about the Priesthood and ordinances. We told her that we would probably have someone else teach her soon, because she is ready for that. She is amazing and will be a leader in this branch.

The Ham Radio Club of Corsicana met last night and guess who went? Right, Elder Whiting and I!! It was the neatest thing because we have been praying to find people to teach. Sister Wilhelm, in our branch told us about this meeting she was going to, for Ham Radio. So I told her that Elder Whiting did it also so she invited us. Anyway when we got there she had brought her two teenage grandaughters that wanted to learn the ham radio. They are the same two girls who went to girl's camp and had such a great experience that they wanted to be baptized. So now we got to meet them and talk with them a little bit. We took some cookies out to their home one day and just handed it to them and left, but they remembered that we had done that. It was a great experience and we are hoping that it will open some doors with them. Life in the mission field is so full of wonderful experiences, we love these people.
