The best and the worst!!

This week we have seen the best and the worst of missionary work. As much as we have loved our mission, this area has been hard. It is like going back in time to Corsicana. In district meeting, they mistakenly called it "Suffer Springs." We felt that was a little appropriate!

Seriously it is difficult to get the members involved with the work. Maybe it is just that we don't know how to do it. We go to their homes and they are nice but just not plugged in on how to talk to their friends and neighbors about Missionary work. Maybe we need to teach them how to role play getting involved in their friend's lives.

Most of our appointments last week cancelled. We would get all ready to leave and have our lessons all ready and then they would call and cancel on us. Even the Branch President cancelled on us today for dinner and the Family Mission plan!! Satan is doing a job on us right now and we are going to fight back!!!

We did have a great discussion with Julia and Santiago. Joseph is one of their sons now that I think about it. We took Sister Reviera as a translator, She loves it. We actually have Spanish Missionaries in the next town, and they could teach them, but we need something to do anyway, so we selfishly took this family. I think because of our Family experience, we can do a great job of teaching them all the Gospel.

Anyway we left them five copies of the Book of Mormon. They said of course they would read it and pray to see if it is true. They have actually been looking for the truth and have turned several other churches away because they did not have the truth. That is so amazing to me of how the Lord works. We will teach them all again tomorrow night. It is the only night they will all be home together. We will use their 18 year old daughter as a translator. That way she will learn the Gospel better. The parents can speak English a lot, they just feel insecure.

We have been trying to get into Rene and JoHanna's home for three weeks now. They just do not answer the phone or are not available. We set appointments and they cancel them for various reasons. Her grandmother is there from Mexico and they are entertaining her for a month. But next month another relative is coming.
They are interested in the Gospel, but right now it is not convenient!!! We feel like we are hounding them and I'm sure they feel it too.

Today at church they cancelled the activity for August in the branch. We feel discouraged about that also because we have nothing to bring people to. How can they receive a social conversion when there is nothing there? People need to feel cared about and fellowshipped. It just makes it hard.

We are still teaching Cory Hall and Adam. J R Fisher cancelled as well as Jeremy. We are still trying to visit members and work on their mission plans. I think it is just a difficult time of the year with people trying to get all their vacations in. It has not been fruitful for us. Here's hoping we will have a much better week. coming up. Either that or we are going to take a vacation and see some parts of Texas.
