We are learning and growing!

This is the month of August. It has been pretty in the 90's consistently now, but not much more. I would call it a mild Texas summer. Sometimes the humidity gets up to 70 or 80%, but so far we have survived, although it does get hot. Thank goodness for air conditioning everywhere.

This week was an opportunity to grow. We felt pretty bummed by the way that things were going. We both had bad attitudes and just couldn't wait to get out of here. We even wrote the mission president a letter telling him of our lack of success!! (Poor guy.)

We finally were able to get a hold of ourselves and look at things thru better eyes and see some of the things we were missing. We had to change our attitudes and eat some humble pie. We decided that we needed to quit complaining and think of things that we could do to serve others and create opportunities for ourselves. We started by making bread and taking it out to visit people. We stopped by Yvonne and Efrin's apartment and inquired as to how she was doing with her pregnancy. (We had heard that she was in the hospital not feeling well earlier in the week.) We asked if we could bring in a meal the next day and they seemed thrilled with the idea. After we took the meal in the next day, they asked when we could come back and teach them again. Yvonne also invited us to her babyshower this Saturday. So we made some headway in that area.

We are now reviewing in our minds other things that we can do to serve others. We are going to ask the Bishop what he thinks about us teaching parenting classes, or the church marriage class on Wednesday nights. That is the night that so many members bring their kids to the church for various weekday activities. We are also in the process of putting together a picnic for Friday night for all that we can involve at the park.

We had Stake conference this past weekend. It was so very good!!! The spirit really touched my heart and made me feel repentant as to my attitude. The Lord lets us learn in various ways. It is not always through our success. I am grateful he gives us second chances.

President Smith didn't sound hopeful at all, about taking us out of this city. In fact Elder Whiting thought he would like to keep us here to help this branch as long as he can. So we decided that we may as well enjoy this experience. We will just take one step at a time.

Adam is being baptized this next Sunday. We taught him last night and he is ready. He is our 9 yr old. We have enjoyed that family.
